Best October Prime Day 2023 deals on Bluetooth speakers
JBL Go 3 portable speaker: $25
Save $25
Both our listings of the top tiny Bluetooth speakers and the top Bluetooth speakers overall for 2023 include the JBL Go 3. It's tough, incredibly portable, and right now it's the cheapest it's ever been.
Bose SoundLink Flex: $119
Save $31
Bose made some audacious claims about the SoundLink Flex speaker when it first went on sale, especially regarding its bass output. However, for its small size, it certainly sounds better than any other wireless speaker and generally lives up to the expectations.
With Bose's PositionIQ technology, which is available in three colors—black, white smoke, and stone blue (pictured)—it automatically detects the speaker's orientation and delivers optimal sound whether it is upright, hanging, or flat on its back. Although all of the hues are on sale, every color but black has the best prices.
JBL Clip 4: $45
Save $35
JBL's Clip mini Bluetooth speaker had a circular form for its first three iterations. However, JBL changed the design of the fourth-generation Clip 4 to a more oval shape, slightly thickened the speaker, and incorporated USB-C charging. With a stronger integrated carabiner "clip," it does appear to be more robust. Additionally, it has a little more volume, a cleaner sound, and more bass. It is not completely waterproof (the commonly discounted Clip 3 is), but it is now dust-proof thanks to its IP67 water-resistance rating. For its small speaker size, it's one of the best wireless Bluetooth speakers.
JBL Partybox Encore Essential: $200
Save $100
The JBL Partybox Encore Essential weighs in around 13 pounds (5.9 kg), making it the company's smallest PartyBox speaker to date. It is 11.54 by 10.87 by 12.87 inches and includes a ring of light above the driver that pulses and changes color in time with the music. The IPX4 splash-proof Essential has an integrated handle for simple carrying.
The speaker is rated for 100 watts of power, but it doesn't quite have the loudness or sound quality of the step-up PartyBox 110 (see below), which we always treat power ratings with a grain of salt. However, it is lighter to carry around and contains a 5.25-inch woofer, two 1.75-inch tweeters, and plenty of kick. It strikes a good mix between size and power in that regard.
The speaker's battery life is six hours at moderate volume levels, and an AC adaptor is provided for charging. If you wish to speak or sing to a crowd, it also contains a microphone port and a charge-out connector on the back (microphone not included).
To be clear, this is a mono speaker with a sizeable design that can produce a lot of sound (there is a bass boost mode). Two of these speakers can be wirelessly paired to provide music that is noticeably better (in stereo). But the cost of that would add up.
Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus: $126
Save $54
For occasionally less than $100, Anker's original Soundcore Motion Boom speaker (see below) has been on this list for a while and is still a respectable deal. But the Motion Boom Plus is a lot better.
It uses Bluetooth 5.3, is 5.29 pounds heavier than the Motion Boom, has improved dual 3.5-inch woofers and newly added dual 1-inch tweeters, and can produce up to 80 watts of audio (60 watts from the woofers and 20 watts from the tweeters). At moderate volume levels, the battery life is rated for 20 hours. Additionally, it is IP67 waterproof, dust-proof, and floats if dropped into water.
The sound quality amazed me; it compares favorably to some of the more costly and larger speakers on this list. The speaker produces a lot of sound for its size and largely avoids distorting at higher volumes.
Tribit Stormbox Blast: $146
Save $54
Tribit is renowned for its reasonably priced, more compact Bluetooth speakers that offer excellent sound quality and functionality. Its brand-new Stormbox Blast speaker, its first Bluetooth boom box speaker, with a built-in light display, USB-out charging, and generally remarkable sound for its size.
With two 30-watt midwoofers and two 15-watt tweeters, it weighs 12 pounds (5.45 kg), which is practically twice as much as Anker's Motion Boom Plus (see above), and it produces more volume and bass but less clarity than that speaker. The midrange, where vocals reside, is also slightly underemphasized at its XBass default setting (I liked the Music EQ setting in the companion app, which is a little more balanced). You can combine two Stormbox Blasts to make a stereo pair, which would significantly enhance the sound, and you may change the speaker's firmware.
The battery life is excellent. At moderate volume levels, it can last up to 30 hours. The speaker is completely waterproof and has an IPX7 rating. The Tribit Stormbox Blast is a decent value that performs well in terms of sound quality against more expensive JBL boom box speakers that are undoubtedly more attractive. This is similar to the Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus. Apply the $20 immediate coupon when making an Amazon purchase to ensure that you pay the $180 price.
JBL Charge 5: $130
Save $50
The Charge 5 from JBL strikes a solid compromise between size, performance, and robustness. It is larger than the JBL Flip 5 or other conventional little Bluetooth speakers, yet it is still small and has a higher overall volume and bass punch. It is an improvement over the previous Charge and features a built-in USB charging connection for recharging your mobile devices, better audio, and a dust- and waterproof design. To boost clarity and bass performance over the Charge 4, JBL claims the speaker has a "racetrack-shaped driver," a separate tweeter, and twin passive radiators. (In my tests, this did in fact hold true.)
20 hours of battery life are claimed at moderate volume settings. Additionally, this model comes with JBL's PartyBoost technology, which enables you to pair it with additional JBL portable speakers to improve the sound they produce. Six color options are available for the Charge 5: black, blue, gray, red, teal, and "squad" (which resembles a type of camouflage).
Tribit StormBox Micro 2: $48
Save $12
In the year 2020, Tribit introduced the StormBox Micro, a less expensive version of Bose's famous SoundLink Micro speaker that produced surprisingly good sound for its small size and affordable price. The upgraded StormBox Micro 2 features a charge-out capability that transforms the speaker into a power bank for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets in addition to better sound and battery life. You may attach it to your bag or the handlebars of your bike using an inbuilt strap. Keep in mind that this price is the only one for the color blue.
Anker Soundcore Rave Party 2: $150
Save $90
The Anker Soundcore Rave Party 2 has a handle, a built-in light show, and can be used vertically or horizontally. Similar to other larger speakers with higher power ratings (in this case, 120 watts), this speaker offers a USB-A out connector on the back for charging your smartphone or other devices. It also requires its own AC adapter to charge rather than using a USB cable.
The 11.7-pound Rave Party 2 is a more beautifully constructed speaker and, despite costing more than Tribit's Stormbox Blast, it might sound a little bit better. The Tribit's bass goes a little deeper, but I was generally pleased with this speaker's low-end capabilities. Its two 4-inch woofers and two 2-inch tweeters produce forceful, punchy sound with enough power to cover larger rooms. You may wirelessly connect several Rave Party 2 and other Soundcore speakers that support the brand's PartyCast 2.0 functionality for even more powerful sound.
This speaker has an IPX4 rating, is splash-proof, and features a microphone input with distinct gain and reverb controls (no microphone is provided). However, it is not completely waterproof and cannot float like some speakers can. You may modify the sound profile and light show with the companion app for iOS and Android. The battery life is rated at up to 16 hours, however if you turn up the volume, that time will shorten.
Although the speaker is made to play loudly outside, I did find the sound stayed together fairly well at greater volumes and largely avoided distorting. However, unless you're throwing a party, in which case all critical listening goes out the door, the speaker sounds best inside at less than 75% loudness.
JBL Boombox 2: $250
Save $150
Due to JBL's release of the $500 newer Boombox 3 last year, the Boombox 2 frequently sells at a significant discount. The cheapest price we've seen for it is $250, though. The Boombox 2 is still an excellent sounding portable speaker that plays loud and has plenty of bass, even though the Boombox 3 offers superior sound (it has more clarity and somewhat better bass definition). It's also really rough.
Anker Soundcore Motion Plus: $70
Save $30
Anker's Motion Plus speaker may have been released a few years ago (we awarded it a CNET Editors' Choice Award in 2020), but it is still one of the best-sounding models available for under $100. While still small, it is bigger than many little Bluetooth speakers. With greater bass, loudness, and clarity than most of the competition in its price category, it manages to sound noticeably fuller. Additionally, it supports the aptX streaming codec for devices like Samsung's Galaxy phones and is completely waterproof (IPX7 rated). Its current lowest price of $70 is matched.
Anker Soundcore Motion X600: $150
Save $50
In addition to having a luxury design with a metal grille and carrying handle, Anker's new Soundcore Motion X600 tiny boombox boasts some intriguing features like spatial audio and support for Sony's LDAC audio codec. It is a terrific value and has an amazing sound for its comparatively small size.
It has some bulk at 4.2 pounds (1.9 kg), but it's light enough to carry around without feeling like you're working out. The speaker comes in three color options: gray, green, and blue. It has five drivers total: two woofers, two tweeters, and one full-range, upward-firing driver. "In a unique speaker array that combined with Soundcore's audio algorithm and DSP helps create a wide (and tall) soundstage for listening to any type of music," claims Anker. It has a 50 watt maximum power rating, with three 10-watt amps, two 20-watt amps for the woofers and tweeters, and one 20-watt amp for the upward-firing driver.
I wasn't particularly impressed with the sound quality at the default sound option without bass boost or spatial audio active (the bass is a little lackluster, the mids are recessed, and there's a little too much treble push). However, everything sounds more even and full once the spatial audio and bass boost are on. Additionally, the Soundcore companion app for iOS and Android allows for greater sound profile customization.
Anker Soundcore Motion Boom: $70
Save $40
The original Motion Boom is still a fantastic alternative for a lot less money if you don't want to spend the extra cash on Anker's newer and improved Soundcore Motion Boom Plus. It's a tiny bit lighter than the Motion Boom Plus, and the volume isn't as loud, but for the money (especially when on sale for $70), it offers excellent sound, especially when compared to smaller speakers like the more expensive JBL Charge 5.
JBL Partybox 310: $400
Save $150
The Partybox 310, a large party speaker from JBL, is currently on sale for $400, saving $150 off the $550 regular price. I've used the superior Partybox 110, which is smaller and currently on sale for $300. The 310 model is much better and comes with wheels and a retractable handle for portability. It's a true party speaker, and you can connect two of them for powerful stereo sound.
Sony SRS-XG300: $198
Save $52
The SRS-XG300 and SRS-XG500 boombox speakers from Sony are both on sale for $198 and $298 respectively for Prime Day. They're both terrific offers now, even though they're generally a little too expensive. The JBL Boombox 2 gives somewhat more clarity and is now on sale for $250. (There is a newer JBL Boombox 3 that is even better but costs more.) The SRS-XG500 is a rather large speaker that produces huge bass but falls short of the JBL Boombox 2. However, the SRS-XG300 is easier to transport and provides good sound for its size.
